Innuendo Film Festival Award

Thoughts of Infinity, the feature-length documentary on artist James Howell directed by Halina Dyrschka, received the Innuendo Award for Best Editing at the 2026 Innuendo Film Festival.

Dedicated to films that explore suggestion, ambiguity, and the expressive possibilities of cinematic language, the Innuendo Film Festival highlights works that challenge conventional narrative structures and engage the imaginative and philosophical capacities of film. Drawing from the historical meaning of “innuendo” as indirect expression and layered implication, the festival celebrates cinema that operates through subtlety, atmosphere, and associative meaning.

Thoughts of Infinity was recognized for its contemplative editorial structure and meditative pacing. Blending archival material, reflective testimony, and evocative cinematography, the documentary traces Howell’s lifelong pursuit of the “in-between” — a philosophical and visual space central to both his paintings and worldview. The film’s editing mirrors Howell’s nuanced exploration of perception, stillness, and tonal transition, inviting viewers into the quiet precision of his artistic practice.

Congratulations to director Halina Dyrschka, editor Antje Lass, cinematographer Luana Knipfer, composer Damian Scholl, producers Halina Dyrschka and Laura Bardier, and all those involved in the production of the film.
