THE MISSION

The James Howell Foundation strives to honor James Howell's legacy and his unique approach to art through the support of various projects. The foundation has two main program lines.

One line focuses on philanthropic initiatives that empower art professionals, curators, and artists. The foundation believes that art is knowledge and crucial to the ongoing search for awareness and understanding. It supports curatorial research that embraces science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. The foundation offers a curatorial grants to independent, not-for-profit, museum-affiliated curators who embrace thoughtful challenges and work through the creative process.

The other program line serves the community by increasing public access to James Howell's work and archives. To achieve this goal, the foundation has initiated a gift/purchase program that places artworks in appropriate institutions, a program that subsidizes the loan and exhibitions of Howell's artworks, and an in-depth website that allows access to James Howell's artistic practice. The foundation to foster interdisciplinary study at college and university museums through these efforts.
