Sunday, March 8, 2020
11 am – 12.30 pm
The James Howell Foundation

In this conversation with London based art-dealer Niklas von Bartha and Maitland Jones will examine the principles that guided the design of this unique loft and explore wider themes in Architecture that have come to inform structures for presenting as well as producing works of art. By reflecting on the different uses of the Loft and by delving into the history of the commission, the conversation will offer an insight into the processes that were informed by an artist with a keen understanding for minimal form, light and space.

Maitland Jones, principal partner and longtime collaborator at Deborah Berke Partners Architects, oversaw the creation of the Howell Loft in the 1990's. The 1998 AIA NY award-winning design truly takes into account the particular requirements set out by the late painter James Howell and his wife Joy Howell.
