Eric R. Kandel (b.1929), recipient of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his research on the physiological basis of memory storage in neurons, shared with Arvid Carlsson and Paul Greengard. Dr. Kandel has written extensively about art, two recent books are: Reductionism in Art and Brain Science: Bridging the Two Cultures, and The Age of Insight: The Quest to Understand the Unconscious in Art, Mind, and Brain, from Vienna 1900 to the Present. Dr. Kandel is currently University Professor and Kavli Professor in the Departments of Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Biochemistry and Biophysics at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Senior Investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Dr. Kandel is also founding director of the Center for Neurobiology and Behavior, which is now the Department of Neuroscience at Columbia University.

Nicholas Fox Weber (b.1947), graduate of Columbia College and Yale University, is the director of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and the author of many books, including: The Clarks of Cooperstown, Balthus, Le Corbusier, The Bauhaus Group and Patron Saints. For nearly forty years, Weber has devoted himself to the legacy of Anni Albers and Josef Albers. The Foundation in Connecticut - with its artists’ residential studios, archives and gallery - and the Albers Museum in Bottrop, Germany, are devoted to the mission of enabling the world to savor Anni and Josef’s universal and timeless art and values. Through the Albers Foundation and thanks to the generous support of his fellow trustees, in 2006, Weber established the 'American Friends of Le Korsa'. This organization assists with medical care and education in some of the poorest neighborhoods of Dakar and isolated regions of Senegal. Weber has also recently created 'Thread', a cultural center with artists’ residencies in the village of Sinthian.
