Curator's Talk with with Joanna Warsza and Anna Janevski

  • James Howell Foundation New York (map)

ICI - independent Curator International with the support of the James Howell Foundation present a special curator’s talk with

Joanna Warsza
co-curator of the Polish pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale,

in conversation with
Ana Janevski
Curator of Media and Performance, MoMA.

Warsza discusses artist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas’s exhibition in the Polish pavilion, Re-enchanting the World, which represented the first project by a Roma artist to be shown in any national pavilion. The talk examines the themes of interdependence, transition, and cyclicality that informed both Mirga-Tas’s work and the curatorial process of bringing it to Venice. Through the patchwork tapestries that make up the exhibition, the artist physically and metaphorically carries out the work of repair and the craft of narrative, reinscribing a Roma perspective into art historical discourse while demythologizing stereotypical views and creating enchantment in the world.

The James Howell Foundation is a proud sponsor of ICI - Independent Curators International ‘s Curator’s Perspective program.
