The James Howell Foundation is pleased to participate in the 2024 World Art Foundations Global Summit titled “Navigating the nexus of culture and global forces” at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal.

The World Art Foundation global summit features panels and keynote speakers who explore how "art foundation members position themselves within the economic, financial, demographic, social, technological, environmental, and geopolitical framework." The event is held over two days with 58 speakers, including Laura Bardier - the director of the James Howell Foundation.

Laura Bardier is a New York-based curator, writer, and executive. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the James Howell Foundation and is the Founding Director of the ESTE ARTE Cultural Summit & Art Fair. Since 2018, Bardier has led the James Howell Foundation, overseeing its incorporation and implementing a strategic plan that has successfully expanded access, awareness, and engagement with James Howell’s artistic practice. In February 2014, Bardier established ESTE ARTE, a platform that has significantly reshaped the art landscape of South America. She has written extensively about contemporary art in various publications and has curated several exhibitions. Bardier is actively involved in several professional organizations, serving as the Chair of Governance at ArtTable and as a board member for ICI - Independent Curators International and Creative Capital. She holds an MA in Curatorial Studies from Donau Universität in Austria and an undergraduate degree from Università degli Studi di Firenze in Italy.


World Art Foundations (WAF) was created in 2014 by Peter Deckers and Helena Stork. WAF is the only network exclusively dedicated to private art foundations, whether they are created by individuals, artists or companies. They have a growing membership of over 250 Art Foundations, spanning the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. WAF is a hub that enables decision-makers to share their knowledge and experiences to support and inspire each other based on advancing together in the context of common goals. Providing targeted solutions and exclusive content focussed around Art Foundations’ visions, missions and objectives.
